New Pilot Programme supporting Installers
MCS has been developing an exciting new programme to enable a company to demonstrate the competence of their workforce. Feedback has shown that whilst the majority of companies agree that the overall competence of the company is paramount to providing the consumer protection at the heart of the Scheme, the methods of demonstrating the competence aspect have been complex.
A simple solution would be to establish a single competence route such as one preferred qualification. Whilst relatively easy to implement this route would penalise many companies that can install technologies perfectly well without having undertaken the specific qualification, or impart an additional cost on those companies to undertake the exercise.
Alternatively, MCS has defined the actual criteria utilised by the Scheme and the methods of demonstrating competence to that criteria can be shown, via the Experienced Workers Route (EWR) and the new “Pilot” stage of which is being deployed. This route will mirror the traditional training and assessment routes but may well be a preferred option for some companies.
